A Tropical Evacuation

Laurie and John
The Wyndham Resort at Sugar Bay
St. Thomas, USVI
October 25, 2007

Although Laurie and John didn’t know it when they chose the Wyndham resort at Sugar Bay in St. Thomas USVI, but they couldn’t have picked a nicer spot for yours truly to spend my evacuation from the fires in San Diego. So, with my wife and sons safely up in scenic La Canada, just north of LA, I made my way to the Caribbean. And, although I didn’t see any pirates, I did meet a bunch of REALLY fun people including Laurie and John and ultimately felt much more like I was on vacation, rather than working. The wedding day brought a few harmless rain showers, but, then again, how could you tell when the humidity made it feel like you were in a sauna all day anyway (a quick shower in the middle of the reception made me feel like a new man!). Weather concerns aside, the day went off without a hitch and we made some great photos. We even managed to work a rainbow or two into a couple of shots. I hope you like them!

BROOKE AND CHRIS

The Sculpture Garden at Balboa Park
October 20, 2007

Brooke and Chris should know by now how INCREDIBLY lucky they are to have had such a gorgeous wedding on a classically beautiful San Diego day in Balboa Park. Less than 24 hours after their wedding, San Diego is enshrouded in an eerie glow of orange light filtered through the smoke of what will likely be the worst fire in San Diego history. As I write this, we’re packing up our belongings and making our way up to Pasadena for some fresh air (relatively speaking). This will be a short entry as the police just drove by informing us of the evacuation. So here are a few images from Brooke and Chris’s spectacular wedding…

Da Del Meets Da Bears (or, lucky October 13!)

Liz and Jason
The Hotel Del Coronado
October 13, 2007

There was a whole lot of Midwestern hospitality in the air at the Hotel Del Coronado this weekend as many Chicago natives made the long trek to see one of their own tie the knot. Liz and Jason woke up Saturday morning to an unlikely sight in San Diego…rain. While it may have made some of the Chicagoans feel more at home, no bride wants to be faced with the decision of “do we move it indoors” just hours before she’s to walk down the aisle… especially when you’ve chosen the Del. Luckily, with the help of wedding planner extraordinaire, Rachel Peniche, she made the right decision and decided to risk it like a biscuit. Within minutes the clouds parted and revealed a classic San Diego scene…
